Aon Marks Earth Day
April 22, 2024

336 words…about a minute and a half read

In recognition of Earth Day, we’re sharing how Aon helps clients manage risks related to the environment and the steps we’re taking as a firm to build a more sustainable world:

  • Aon’s 2023 Impact Report details the firm’s efforts to make better decisions for a better world. Read about the report and listen to “On Aon” for a conversation between Laura Wanlass, governance and ESG practice leader, and Leslie Follmer, head of Investor Relations and ESG, on the report.
  • Aon leaders participated in major climate meeting and events in 2023, including COP 28 and NYC Climate Week where we discussed steps for transformative climate action.
  • The firm is an early adopter of American Express Global Business Travel and Shell Aviation’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) pilot program which recently announced the first transatlantic flight using 100 percent SAF. The flight highlights how SAF is a viable alternative to fossil-derived jet fuel and will help decarbonize air travel. Read more about the flight here.
  • In September, Aon joined the International Emissions Trading Association, a non-profit organization that seeks to establish an international framework for trading in greenhouse gas emission reductions while balancing economic efficiency with environmental integrity and social equity. Read more about the announcement here.
  • As part of Aon’s commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, in 2023 the firm set a near-term science-based emissions reduction target, which has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. The approval means that Aon’s targets are consistent with a global goal of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2032. Read more about the milestone here.
  • Also this year, Aon released its Climate and Catastrophe Insight Report which identified global natural disaster and climate trends so that organizations and can make better decisions to manage volatility and enhance global resilience. Aon President Eric Andersen, spoke to the Financial Times about the report, read more here.
    • Zoom out: Aon CEO Greg Case, called for better climate risk modeling for a “stressed” property insurance market in the Financial Times.
